Brand new work announced from Theatre Royal Plymouth’s community group, Our Space
The Our Space Production Company presents Domestication
Theatre Royal Plymouth (TRP) community group, Our Space, will return with a new show, Domestication, which explores the human experience through its signature style of bold visual storytelling and immersive soundscapes.
Our Space is TRP’s outreach programme that works with adults who may have lived experience of homelessness, mental health issues, addiction, reoffending or social isolation. The scheme provides individuals with skills development sessions for longer-standing members to devise and present bold and innovative work.
This year’s cohort, which incorporates other strands of the programme including the Armed Forces Community, has created the brand-new show, Domestication, which delves into our animal instincts and is described as ‘a tapestry of episodic moments centred around a Hen Do’. The production will premiere in The Drum this July and takes the audience on an exploration of nightlife and the fantastical things that can happen when we step out of our comfort zone.
Our Space Programme Manager, Becky Ormrod, said: “Our Space is a unique offering in that it provides a safe space for people with shared life experiences to come together, while also teaching valuable life skills and confidence building. It also offers the extraordinary opportunity to perform at the theatre in front of a paying audience!
“We’re so proud of all the Our Space members and can’t wait to share this exciting new production with the people of Plymouth and beyond.”
Our Space was founded 15 years ago with the intention of providing vulnerable people with regular free activity to support recovery and rehabilitation through different forms of drama. The programme has supported hundreds of individuals across the city.
Domestication plays in The Drum 17 – 19 July 2025. Tickets cost £5 and will be on sale to Members from Fri 09 May and to the general public from Mon 12 May https://theatreroyal.com/whats-on/
