What’s On Plymouth Culture launches search for TikTok Community Reporters
Plymouth Culture is calling on young people across the city to step forward and become the next generation of Community Reporters, as part of a new campaign to grow its presence on TikTok and connect with younger audiences.
The What’s On Plymouth Culture platform is already a go-to guide for culture in the city; events, exhibitions, live music and creative activity. Now, the team is looking to work with a small group of paid creators aged 18–30 who can help bring Plymouth’s cultural scene to life through short-form video.
Successful applicants will have the opportunity to attend events, explore the city’s creative spaces and get paid to produce TikTok content that showcases what’s happening in Plymouth. No formal experience is required - just a passion for creativity, storytelling and social media.
Bracken Jelier, Content Manager at Plymouth Culture, said:
“We know there is so much happening across Plymouth, but we also know that younger audiences are discovering things differently. TikTok is where people are finding inspiration, making plans and sharing experiences. This is about inviting young people to tell the story of the city in their own way.”
Why we’re doing this and what we’re looking for
At What’s On Plymouth Culture, our role is simple: to help people discover what’s happening across the city.
From grassroots gigs and independent exhibitions to workshops, festivals and community events, we work with partners across Plymouth to shine a light on the people, places and creativity that make this city what it is. Through our website, social media and storytelling, we aim to make culture more visible, more accessible and easier to be part of.
But the way people discover culture is changing.
Increasingly, younger audiences are finding things to do through platforms like TikTok, through short videos, recommendations, and content created by people they relate to. To stay relevant and to genuinely connect with that audience, we need to meet them where they are.
That’s why we’re launching a new initiative to work with a small group of TikTok Community Reporters aged 18–30, who can help us tell Plymouth’s story in a more immediate, authentic and engaging way.
We’re not looking for polished influencers or people with huge followings. What matters most is curiosity, creativity and a genuine interest in what’s happening around you. You might already be making TikToks, or you might just have a good eye for what’s interesting and worth sharing. Either way, this is about giving people the opportunity to develop their voice and perspective.
Community Reporters will have the chance to attend events, explore the city’s cultural spaces and create short videos that capture their experiences. From live music and theatre to markets, exhibitions and unexpected moments across the city, we want to see Plymouth through their lens.
Importantly, this is a paid opportunity.
We recognise that asking young people to contribute their time, creativity and energy should be properly valued. By offering paid work from April, we want to make this opportunity accessible to a wider range of people, including those who may not otherwise be able to take on unpaid creative work. This is about creating meaningful pathways into the cultural sector, not just content.
By working with Community Reporters, we hope to build a more representative, diverse and dynamic picture of Plymouth; one that reflects the real experiences of people living, studying and spending time here.
