Experience Plymouth through new eyes this July with Through My Eyes
What does it mean to find a place you can call home?
On Saturday 4 July, audiences are invited to discover Plymouth Sound from a different perspective through Through My Eyes, a unique immersive audio experience taking place at Devil's Point.
Created by artists Agnieszka Blonska and Tori Cannell as part of Sea for Yourself, the work has been developed in collaboration with a group of Polish mothers living in Plymouth. Through a series of creative workshops, the women shared personal stories, memories and reflections on migration, motherhood and belonging, which have been woven together with poetry and the sounds of the sea to create a contemplative listening experience.
Seated overlooking Plymouth Sound and wearing wireless headphones provided on arrival, audiences will be invited to pause, reflect and experience the city through the voices of women who now call Plymouth home.
Artist Agnieszka Blonska said:
"We wanted to create a space where people could pause, listen and connect through personal stories and shared experiences of the sea, migration and home."
Co-creator Tori Cannell added:
"This project has been rooted in care, collaboration and listening from the very beginning. It has been incredibly moving to shape the work alongside the women taking part."
Rather than telling audiences what to think, Through My Eyes offers an opportunity to slow down and listen. Set against the backdrop of Plymouth Sound National Marine Park, the experience explores how our relationships with place are shaped by memory, family and the journeys that bring us here.
The event has already proved popular, with the 11am performance now fully booked. Due to demand, an additional 3.30pm performance has been added alongside the 1.30pm showing, but spaces remain limited and advance booking is essential.
Through My Eyes is commissioned and produced by Plymouth Culture for Sea for Yourself, a programme exploring our relationship with the sea through creativity, storytelling and community. The programme is delivered in partnership with Plymouth Sound National Marine Park and Plymouth City Council, with development support from The Box, Real Ideas, Arts University Plymouth, University of Plymouth and Theatre Royal Plymouth. Sea for Yourself is funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, Arts Council England Place Partnership Fund and Plymouth City Council.
