The Big Blue Coastal Catch

  • The Box Tavistock Place Plymouth, England, PL4 8AX United Kingdom (map)

As part of this year's ESRC's Festival of Social Science, the University of Plymouth is excited to share that The Big Blue Coastal Catch will be taking place at The Box, Plymouth, next Friday, 31st October!

This creative, research-informed event celebrates all the amazing forms of cultural capital found in our coastal communities. We’re inviting young people and families to share what they love about living by the sea by writing or drawing their 'blue treasures' and showcasing them on a large, suspended fishing net as part of an interactive art installation. These can be anything from local heritage, music, arts, and sports to traditional trades and everyday coastal experiences.

We hope this event gives these coastal communities space to reflect on and celebrate their 'blue treasures', helping to foster a sense of pride in place. You may even learn a little about cultural capital along the way!

Come along to see what we manage to catch!
