Benji Thomas: Soup of the Moon, solo exhibition at The Talk Shop
Benji Thomas is delighted to present his first solo show in the South West, Soup of the Moon, at The Talk Shop, Stonehouse.
Soup of the Moon is an experimental response to the nocturnal landscape, drawing from first hand sketches and photography taken over the last 6 months in Plymouth and beyond. It features work that explores how the arrival of night time breaks down and transforms every day spaces, and how these spaces can be mined for moments of strangeness, uncanny beauty, and complete abstraction.
“At night, information is lost. Our familiar spaces become malleable, uncertain, and subject to re-interpretation. Drawing or painting these scenes is an act of distillation and discovery.” – Benji Thomas, artist
Benji Thomas holds a BFA from Loughborough University, and an MFA from Oxford University’s Ruskin School of Art. He now lives and works in Plymouth, from his studio at GROW in Plymouth’s cultural quarter. This show tracks his recent shift into more experimental forms of landscape observation.
“I’m definitely obsessed with studying light, and how it behaves. I must be obsessed with night time for the same reason, and how artificial light gives us a new world to observe when the sun goes down.” – Benji Thomas, artist
