Alastair and Fleur Mackie - Projected Outcomes

  • KARST 22 George Place Plymouth, England, PL1 3NY United Kingdom (map)

Projected Outcomes is an exhibition of Alastair and Fleur Mackie’s collaborative practice, presenting their approach to art making which is both measured and poetic. Works on show draw on a relationship to the landscape, particularly the immediate surroundings of the North Cornwall coastline where the duo have lived since 2011.

Constructed from diligently sourced, site-specific objects – mineral traces of marine organisms, derelict fishing gear, sub-fossilised oak – the works speak to the circumstances of their origins, sparking connections across time and space. These dislocated fragments arrive on the tide and underscore the extent to which we find ourselves at odds with the natural environment. The beaches and shorelines from which these materials are drawn are liminal spaces – continually appearing and disappearing, exposed by extreme low tide when the Sun, Moon, and Earth are aligned.

Join us for the opening event on 29 May (6–8pm). Alastair and Fleur Mackie will be in conversation with KARST’s Head of Programme, Ben Borthwick, on 12 July (12–1pm).
