  • Plymouth Arts Cinema Tavistock Place Plymouth, England, PL4 8AT United Kingdom (map)

A special screening, not only in celebration of David Attenborough’s 100th birthday but also to showcase the work of Fotonow's Blue Sparks: Media residency; a project working with 14-18 year olds to reflect on their relationship to the sea and make works to inspire others to do the same.

These short films vary from animation, comedy drama, and auto-biographical accounts.

Ocean with David Attenborough takes viewers on a breath-taking journey showing there is nowhere more vital for our survival, more full of life, wonder, or surprise, than the ocean.

The celebrated broadcaster reveals how his lifetime has coincided with the great age of ocean discovery. Attenborough shares the importance of why a healthy ocean keeps the entire planet stable and flourishing.

Stunning immersive cinematography showcases the wonder of life under the seas and exposes the realities and challenges facing our ocean.

Yet this story is one of optimism, with Attenborough pointing to inspirational stories from around the world to deliver his greatest message: the ocean can recover to a glory beyond anything anyone alive has ever seen.

The Blue Sparks Media Residency students chose Ocean with David Attenborough “to raise awareness of the issues faced in the ocean and how we are connected to it. We also wanted to share its message of hope, and inspire audiences to reflect on their own connection to the sea.”

Dir. Colin Butfield, Toby Nowlan, Keith Scholey, UK, 2025, 98 mins.
