The Tamaritans Theatre Company are thrilled to be returning to the Barbican Theatre for the first time in around 20 years this Autumn. Following a number of successful productions, we will be capping the year off with the brilliant black comedy, Hangmen written by Martin McDonagh.
McDonagh is an Irish playwright and filmmaker, most well-known for directing the award-winning films The Banshees Of Inisherin, In Bruges and Three Billboards Outside Epping Missouri.
Hangmen follows Harry Wade, England’s second-best hangman, on the day the British government has suspended hanging. Amongst the cub reporters and sycophantic pub regulars, dying to hear Harry’s reaction to the news, a peculiar stranger lurks with a very different motive for his visit. The savagely hilarious story unfolds largely in the bar in the North of England which Harry now owns.
Hangmen explores themes of identity, justice and the consequences of violence, wrapped in a darkly humorous package.
