Collaged together using footage from the film archive at The Box, 'The Witching Hour' positions the local landscape as a psychological stage for strange dreams and fears to play out on. As the film progresses, it collapses into nightmarish visions of witches and evil spirits. Drawing on regional folk customs and LGBT+ histories, this newly-commissioned film by artist Tyler Mellins encourages us to ‘turn and face the strange’, embracing those different from ourselves and resisting harmful narratives.

About Tyler Mellins

Tyler Mellins (b. 1995, Mansfield, UK) is an artist whose work explores universal themes including loss, memory and time. Through moving image and immersive multimedia installations, Mellins conjures eerie experiences that linger in the mind. Ghosts, witchcraft and the occult are recurring themes in his work.

In the spirit of Surrealism, Mellins believes that engaging with the strange and supernatural can provoke new ways of thinking critically about the world around us. He is currently based at Yorkshire Artspace in Sheffield, UK.
