Non-Executive Director at Flameworks
About Flameworks
Flameworks is a cornerstone of Plymouth’s creative economy. As a non-profit Community Interest Company (CIC), we provide essential industrial facilities, from blacksmithing forges to ceramic kilns, for over 20 professional makers. We are an organisation with deep roots in Devonport’s industrial heritage and have a firm commitment to keeping craft spaces affordable.
The Opportunity: Non-Executive Director (NED)
We are seeking a Non-Executive Director to provide independent oversight and constructive challenge to our executive team. This is a vital governance role that ensures our CIC remains financially resilient and legally compliant.
The Commitment:
Frequency: Quarterly Board Meetings (4 per year) plus AGM.
Focus: High-level strategy, financial stewardship, and risk management.
Term: A 3-year appointment to ensure continuity and fresh perspective.
Liability: All Directors are fully covered by our Directors’ and Officers’ (D&O) Liability Insurance.
Why Your Expertise Matters
While our internal directors manage the "day-to-day" of the studios, our Non-Executive Directors provide the "helicopter view." Whether it is advising on lease negotiations, scrutinizing quarterly accounts, or helping us secure heritage funding, your external professional perspective is what allows our artist community to thrive.
Next Steps
We have a formal Job Description and Code of Conduct available, which includes a 3-month break clause to ensure the role fits your professional schedule.
